Unlock Windows desktop with PasswordFree

After your PasswordFree Desktop Unlock feature is enabled, you can unlock your Windows workstation without a password. To do so, the following preconditions are to be met:

- The PasswordFree Desktop Unlock feature should be enabled on this desktop. For more details, see Enable the PasswordFree Desktop Unlock.

- You should be signed in to your PasswordFree Profile on your PasswordFree desktop app on this desktop. For more details, see Installing the PasswordFree Desktop app and creating a Profile.

- Your mobile device with the PasswordFree  mobile app installed should be available to you. For more details, see PasswordFree mobile app overview.

- You should be signed in to your PasswordFree Profile on your mobile device. For more details, see Sign in to your Profile.

 

To unlock your Windows desktop with PasswordFree Desktop Unlock, perform the following actions:

Procedure

1. On your Windows lock screen, click the PasswordFree tile.

 

: The PasswordFree tile is available only in case the PasswordFree Desktop Unlock feature was enabled on the same desktop.

2. To confirm your PasswordFree login,  click the  arrow.

 

3. Your Desktop Unlock feature is unavailable in the following cases:

  • If you are signed out from your Profile on  any other device. Sign in to your PasswordFree Profile on any other device and continue unlocking.
  • If  you have no or weak Internet connection. Check your Internet connection and try again

4. If all the preconditions are fulfilled, a push notification is sent to your device where you are signed in (but not to the current PasswordFree desktop app) and is simultaneously displayed on your desktop screen.

 

5. If the pictures and codes are the same in your desktop app and on your mobile device, tap Accept in your PasswordFree mobile app.

 

: you can accept and \ or decline a push notification with your watchOS device (Apple Watch) if: 1) the watchOS device is linked to your iOS device and 2) the iOS device is blocked at the moment when the push notification is sent.

6.  If your Windows credentials have been changed, type your new Windows  login and password and confirm them by clicking Save

 

 

:  You will have to enter your Windows credentials every time your Windows password is changed.

7. To decline authentication, click Cancel on the desktop lock screen or tap Decline on your other device where the push was received.

8. On  your mobile device, perform one of the following steps:

1) Fill in the form and tap Send.

2) Tap Skip to avoid filling in the form.

9. If you give no response within 2 minutes, the session on your mobile device is terminated.
